Growing up as the eldest daughter in an African family, I naturally embraced early responsibilities. During my formative years, managing my father’s businesses during university breaks ignited my entrepreneurial spirit and kept me consistently proactive. This early exposure to leadership, combined with my deep passion and technical expertise as a Geospatial Engineer, fueled a desire to create solutions within the geospatial field. This vision culminated in the establishment of Geosurveys and Geospatial Information Limited in 2016, introducing Loise Makena, The Director.
It’s often said that discipline serves as the crucial bridge connecting aspiration to achievement, and that true success arises not from chance, but from unwavering dedication. The year 2016 marked the inception of a journey defined by precisely this blend of discipline and sheer hard work. In those early stages, a foundation of prayer and self-assurance proved invaluable. By integrating these with a growing repertoire of skills, I maintained a steadfast focus on delivering client instructions with efficiency and punctuality. As a young professional, cultivating consistency and trustworthiness emerged as paramount in accelerating growth and establishing a strong position within the industry. Gradually, one referral paved the way for another, propelling my ascent.
True greatness in leadership stems from the profound act of self-mastery. This journey of conquering oneself is paved with unwavering discipline. When forging a robust team as a leader, certain values remain foundational and non-negotiable: authenticity, decisive action, transparent communication, a commitment to continuous learning, and profound empathy. In today’s dynamic corporate landscape, shaped by rapid technological advancements, constant innovation, and a workforce increasingly composed of Millennials and Gen Z, leadership demands resilience and fortitude. Navigating the delicate balance of fostering close team relationships while maintaining necessary professional distance is crucial. Within a technically skilled firm, a culture of continuous learning and a drive for innovation are the very essence of growth. All of this is under the direction of Loise Makena, The Director.
The maturation of a firm necessitates a comprehensive strategy encompassing internal team development, client engagement, project delivery excellence, and robust risk management. The critical importance of financial acumen, particularly in accounting and taxation, cannot be overstated. The entrepreneurial journey often involves significant learning and the challenging process of adapting established practices. Navigating inherent operational imbalances and achieving success is a demanding endeavor, and the widely cited statistic regarding the survival rate of Kenyan SMEs within their first five years underscores this reality. Therefore, reaching an eighth year of operation speaks volumes.
So, how has it been eight years in? Take a guess!
